The artist will be present
Anya Tish Gallery is delighted to announce «Close Encounters,» an exhibition of new works by Eduardo Portillo. Known for challenging the most fundamental component of painting — the canvas itself, the artist's work is both sculpture and painting and simultaneously neither; it occupies a liminal space, which opens the discussion of the in-between.
Born in El Salvador, Eduardo Portillo moved to Houston in 2003 to pursue an education in art and in 2011 he earned
his BFA in painting from the University of Houston. His work has been exhibited in numerous art venues throughout
the United Sates, including Lawndale Art Center in Houston, Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, Site 131 in
Dallas, the RULE Gallery in Denver and Marfa, and Galerie Richard in New York. He was awarded an artist residency with Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas and the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship in 2015, and in 2013 his exhibition with the HCC Central Art Gallery was included in the Texas Biennial.
