This event, co-presented by the Emma Lazarus Hadassah chapter, will feature Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Harris County Flood Control District meteorologist Jeff Lindner.

The duo will provide an intimate look at how Harris County communicates during an event such as Harvey and what the impact from Harvey means for how Harris County will operate during future weather events impacting the area. Judge Emmett will also share what residents of the county can expect following the recent bond election and how our area is getting equipped to better handle large amounts of rainfall.

Judge Emmett has served as Harris County Judge since 2007 and along with the county commissioners, manages the nation’s third largest county. By virtue of his position, Judge Emmett serves as the director of Harris County’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and chairman of the Harris County Juvenile Board. He also serves as chairman of the Conference of Urban Counties Policy Committee.

A graduate of Bellaire High School, Judge Emmett received his undergraduate degree in Economics at Rice and Masters of Public Affairs degree at the University of Texas at Austin. A former member of the Texas House of Representatives, Judge Emmett has received numerous awards and honors during his accomplished career including Distinguished Alumnus of Rice University, the Distinguished Public Service Award from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and the Presidential Call to Service Award.

Jeff Lindner raised to local and even national notoriety during Hurricane Harvey. The meteorologist served as a reassuring voice during the storm, calmly updating millions via news conferences and Twitter about rising water levels across the greater Houston metropolitan area. A 2003 graduate with a degree in meteorology at Texas A&M University, Lindner started at the Harris County Flood Control District as an interim in 2003 before coming on full-time a year later. He has since risen to the ranks of Harris County’s chief meteorologist. The program is presented by the Emma Lazarus chapter of Hadassah which is a group of working and non-working women from southwest Houston.

Attendance is open to the community, however RSVPs are required to ensure proper planning for the event.
